Mother's Union Guildford | what-we-do_prison-parenting

Prisons

At HMP Send
We run 2 parenting courses of 6 sessions per year. These courses are adapted from Care for the Family courses and are provided for prisoners who have contact with their children and are hoping to have responsibility for them on release.

We run a monthly meeting with prisoners who are over 50. At this meeting, we can play board games and cards,do handicrafts, make cards or just chat.

We also run 2 sessions of card making for which we supply recycled greeting cards, cards, envelopes and other card-making resources. All recycled cards are supplied by our members.

At HMP Coldingley.Highdown and Downsview we are hoping to resume our rota of members looking after children during visits

Women's Refuges

We support 5 refuges in the diocese. Our members donate toiletries. food and other items which are brought to our bi-annual members’ meetings. We often get requests for bigger items and these requests are sent out to all our members. Once a year we host a party for members and families from the refuge where we supply food and entertainment. This year about 70 children from the refuges attended. Some branches have been linked up with a family and send in gifts and cards.

Women's Night Shelter

Our members supply sleeping bags, toiletries and food which are brought to the members’ meeting.

Guildford Drop-in Centre

For Homeless families. Our members supply towels, washing powder, toiletries, food and cutlery which are brought to our members’ meeting.

Emergency Toiletry Bags

Some branches make up emergency bags for their local hospitals.
