Quiet Day at St. Columba’s House – Mists and mellow fruitfulness
St. Columba’s House, on Maybury Hill, is set in wooded grounds with a pond and gazebo. There is an Oratory which is available to us, in addition to the communal areas and a meeting room at our disposal.
The Reverend Camilla White will be leading the day. She was Priest in Charge at St Andrew’s Grafham until last year and is currently discovering what retirement and a more contemplative way of life might mean for her. She has an MA in Christian Spirituality and is enthusiastic about helping others to engage with the riches of the tradition as part of their spiritual journey.
Mists and mellow fruitfulness
The title of this Quiet Day comes from ‘Ode to Autumn’ by John Keats. The day will offer us a chance to reflect on our feelings about autumn and what we might learn from them. Some of us may love the richness of autumn; others may not look forward to the chillier days and darker evenings. The pattern of our lives mirrors the rhythm of the seasons and, just as autumn in nature comes round year after year, it is worth remembering that we don’t just move from spring to winter once during the course of our lives. The day will therefore also encourage us to consider the different ‘autumn times’ in our own lives, what we might learn from them and their significance for our relationship with God.
There will be two talks exploring some of the different aspects and meanings of autumn and plenty of time for personal reflection.
