Diana Wood

Joint Diocesan President

mothers-union-guildford_whos-who_diana-wood

As your new Joint Diocesan President my vision for the next triennium is to expand the profile of Mothers’ Union in the Diocese of Guildford. My particular passion is parenting in all its breadth and fullness.

One of our key objectives in Mothers’ Union is to encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the church. Parenting is so much more than raising one’s small children, physically and emotionally, extremely important though this is. There is also a third dimension, their spirituality. The Parenting for Faith course empowers parents and others to explore and develop how they can encourage a growing connection with God in their children and teens. I feel Mothers’ Union is particularly well placed to support parents in this important aspect of parenting. Whatever our age, we all have children for whom we can be a significant adult. You may be a young parent, an aunt or uncle, a grandparent, a godparent or a loved and respected family friend. I want to enable many parishes to have the opportunity of exploring this exciting aspect of our responsibility as Christians.

I want to support and encourage existing members, there is so much valuable work already happening in the diocese. I want to see new members of all ages being enrolled and new parishes gaining groups and MU members. I would deeply love to help support a group of school children set up their own MU group.

Q

Steve Moore

Treasurer

I started work as an electronic apprentice at the RAE Farnborough. After which I worked on the Fatigue Plant for Concorde. As that came to a close, I joined an Instrument Company and worked overseas in Nigeria, The Middle and the Far East as well as Spain and offshore in Morcombe Bay. With a downturn in investment in engineering, I started my own business with my brother-in-law, owning a village shop and sub-post office until the change in Sunday trading and the opening of 3 big supermarkets not far away caused us to close. I then took a degree in Health and Social Care working in the care sector. Due to the stresses involved, I had to leave, and I went back into engineering inspecting Gas and electric meters.

I have had a long interest in railed transport and have a model railway in the garden, have assisted a friend in the research of early railways in India and have written a directory of the development of Indian Railways. I am currently Treasurer to the Narrow Gauge Railway Society.

For the last 22 years, I have worshipped at All Saint’s at Woodham serving as Treasurer, Server, Church Warden and Sacristan, having been brought up in the High Church of England.
